One partner tosses, the other forearm-passes the ball back to the tosser’s forehead. The simplest way to build a steady, accurate platform.
🙌 Passing & ReceivingThe tosser alternates left and right, so the passer has to shuffle, stop and pass. Teaches players to beat the ball to the spot instead of reaching.
🙌 Passing & ReceivingA continuous serve–pass–catch drill where everyone follows the ball to the next line. Lots of passing reps from real serves, with constant movement.
🙌 Passing & ReceivingThe classic partner warm-up: pass, set, hit — then the partner digs and the pattern continues. Builds ball control on every contact.
🤲 SettingSet the ball straight up to yourself at higher and higher heights. A solo drill that builds soft hands and clean contact.
🤲 SettingTwo players set the ball back and forth, high and accurate. Builds consistent setting from the legs.
🤲 SettingA coach tosses to the setter’s spot and the setter sets to a target at the left antenna, then to the right. Teaches the setter to face one way and set both directions.
🤲 SettingA non-setter turns a bad pass into a hittable ball with a high forearm set to the outside. A game-saving skill most teams don’t practise enough.
🎯 ServingStart serving close to the net and move back a step after each good serve. Builds confidence and a repeatable technique for new servers.
🎯 ServingServe at targets placed in the opponent’s court. Turns “just get it in” into serving with a purpose.
🎯 ServingAlternate a short serve just over the net with a deep serve to the end line. Teaches servers to control depth, which pulls passers out of position.
💥 AttackingA coach tosses a high ball and the hitter does a full approach and catches it at the highest point. Grooves the footwork and timing before adding the swing.
💥 AttackingA partner drill where one player tosses to themself and hits a controlled down-ball at a partner, who digs it back. Builds the arm swing without the jump.
💥 AttackingHitters attack set balls at two targets: one down the line, one deep cross-court. Teaches hitters to choose a direction instead of hitting at the middle.
💥 AttackingHitters practise placing soft shots into the open spaces behind the block and in the middle of the court. Smart shots score when power is blocked.
🧱 BlockingPartners face each other across the net; one moves along the net and the other mirrors them, then both jump to “block” at each stop.
🧱 BlockingA coach on a box hits balls at the net and the blocker times the jump to stuff them. Realistic timing without needing a setter and hitter.
🛡️ DefenceA coach on a box hits real attacks at defenders, who dig them up to the setter’s spot. The closest thing to game-speed defence without a full team.
🛡️ DefenceThe coach throws balls far from the defender, who sprints, plays the ball back up high and recovers. Builds the habit of never giving up on a ball.
🛡️ DefenceThe coach drops short balls in front of the defender, who sprawls forward to keep them alive and gets back up quickly.
🛡️ DefenceWhen the attacker gets blocked, teammates should already be crouched around them to keep the ball alive. This drill makes coverage a habit.
👟 Footwork & Team PlayFrom a central cone, players move to five points of a star and back, using the right footwork for each direction. A quick warm-up that builds movement habits.
👟 Footwork & Team PlayThe coach sends an easy ball over and the team runs a full pass–set–hit play. Teaches the call, the movement off the net and the first-ball attack.
👟 Footwork & Team PlaySmall teams challenge the team holding the “winner’s side”. Win the rally to stay on, lose and go to the back of the line. Fast, competitive and great for game sense.
