📍 Setup
Partners face each other 4–5 m apart.
🪜 How to run it
- One partner tosses a high ball to the other.
- The receiver moves under the ball, faces their partner and sets it back high.
- Keep setting back and forth without catching.
- Every few sets, step back half a metre to make the set longer.
🏆 Scoring
Count sets in a row. Count only sets the partner can play without taking more than one step.
🧑🏫 Coaching this drill
What success looks like
High, rainbow-shaped sets that drop onto the partner’s forehead.
Coaching cues
“Get under it, face the target”“Legs then arms”“Finish with thumbs to the target”
Common mistakes
- Setting with arms only. Fix: Bend the knees as the ball arrives and push up through the legs.
- Ball contacted too low (at the chin). Fix: Move earlier so the ball is played above the forehead.
➖ Make it easier
Allow a catch-and-set: catch in setting shape, then set.
➕ Make it harder
After each set, touch the floor or turn around before the next contact.
When to move on
When you can keep 20 sets going, move on to Setting to Targets.
