- Maximum six substitutions per team per set. One or more players may be substituted at the same time.
- A player of the starting line-up may leave the game, but only once in a set, and may re-enter only once in a set — and only to their previous position in the line-up.
- A substitute may enter the game only once per set, in place of a starting player, and can be replaced only by that same starting player.
- Substitutions take place in the substitution zone when the ball is out of play; the substitute must be ready to enter when requested.
- Libero replacements are NOT substitutions and do not count towards the six.
