What are the positions in volleyball?

The main playing positions (roles) are:

• Setter — runs the offence with the second touch
• Outside hitter — attacks from the left, passes and defends
• Opposite — main attacker from the right side
• Middle blocker — blocks across the net and hits quick sets
• Libero — back-row passing and defence specialist
• Defensive specialist and serving specialist — tactical substitutes

These are different from the six rotational zones (1–6).
