The match is won by the team that wins three sets.
At 2–2 in sets, the deciding 5th set is played to 15 points with a 2-point lead.
In the deciding set, teams change courts when the leading team reaches 8 points.
Some competitions (e.g., pools, youth events) use best-of-three; FIVB senior competitions use best-of-five.
